Wikipedia defines Crocodile Tears as “false or insincere weeping, a hypocritical display of emotions” and I think that probably sums up the phenonom that is Hillary crying the day before a major primary. After breaking down the day before NH, Hillary is at it again here on the eve of Super Tuesday. The pundits were quick to point out that her show of weakness was ill-timed before NH, and while some speculated that it was a calculated show of emotion in an otherwise steely candidate, most gave her the benefit of the doubt. Hindsight, would suggest that it may have actually helped her pick up more votes than it cost her. Fast forward to today and she’s done it again. During an introduction at a campaign event at Yale’s Child Study Center, Senator Clinton got misty eyed during the introduction. When she finally got to the podium she said, “Well, I said I would not tear up; already we’re not exactly on the path.”

He came in 8th in Iowa, 7th in New Hampshire, and 5th in Michigan and remember that at the MI primary many Dems were MIA. He has 0 pledged delegates and somehow hasn’t managed to get 3,000 votes combined; Kucinich got more than that in NH. The only Democratic hopeful delusional not named Obama or Clinton left is Mike Gravel and God only knows why. The former Senator from Alaska has better odds of hitting the lottery than he does of winning a primary on Super Tuesday, but still he stays in the race. I’d say that his average finishing position would improve to third now, but I suspect Edwards will still finish ahead of him.
A glance across to the Republican side of the house and you might say the same thing about Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. The difference is that Huckabee has actually won something and could win a few more on Tuesday. As for Ron Paul, he’s going to stay in as long as he’s getting the press and debate invites. At this point, he’s just trying to keep his name out there and I wouldn’t be shocked if he ran third party. Sadly, for Mike Gravel his reluctance to get out looks like a thinly veiled cry of, “I’m not dead yet.”
Apparently Rudy Giuliani’s mother never read him the fable “The Tortoise and the Hare”. Rudy tried to take a shortcut to the White House and didn’t really pay enough attention to just how far in front his rivals were getting. By the time he “really” entered the race, he was already too far back to make up the distance. I’m not sure who’s brilliant idea it was for Rudy to sit out Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, Wyoming and South Carolina and put all the eggs in one, unstable basket, but I certainly hope they’re standing in the unemployment line this morning.
Rudy’s strategy of sitting back and concentrating on one big state to catapult him in to Super Tuesday may have been sound if that state was a “lock”, but Florida was anything but. Rudy was foolish to count on Florida as the warning signs were staring him right in the face.
